Asma is currently reading for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Law at the Centre for Socio-Legal Studies of the Law Faculty at the University of Oxford. Her research examines the regulation of the internet with special emphasis on the legal/regulatory issues presented by user-generated content. Her research addresses the participative web and its broader implications in contemporary cyberspace governance.
She is a law graduate from the London School of Economics & Political Science and has completed a LLM in Computer & Communications Law at Queen Mary & Westfield College (University of London). She has also completed the Bar Vocational Course at the City Law School, City University (previously known as the Inns of Court School of Law).
Asma was called to the Bar of England & Wales in 2003 and undertook the pupillage at Fountain Court Chambers in London and Juristconsult Chambers in Mauritius. Following the successful completion of the pupillage, Asma was appointed to the Bar of Mauritius and practised as a commercial barrister at Juristconsult Chambers in Mauritius. She specialised in all aspects of Commercial Law including Corporate Finance, Acquisition Finance, Intellectual Property, Information Technology, Telecommunications, E-Commerce, Re/Insurance and Contract.
Prior to joining the University of Oxford, Asma secured an appointment as a Bar Vocational Course Lecturer at the City Law School, City University (previously known as the Inns of Court School of Law) and lectured in Civil Advocacy, Opinion Writing, Legal Research, Civil Litigation & Evidence, Commercial Law, Company Law, Drafting and Negotiations.
