EDITORS' STATEMENT - ISSUE 12

The Advisory and Editorial Boards of the International Journal of Communications Law & Policy, together with the Information Society Project at Yale Law School and the Institute for Information, Telecommunications and Media Law at the University of Münster, Germany, mourn the premature loss of our friend and colleague Boris Rotenberg.
All of us who knew Boris recall his passion and enthusiasm for information society research and for life in general. He was the driving force behind the International Journal for Communication Law and Policy for the last three years: building a new editorial team and academic partnerships with leading academic institutions around the world. At this juncture we express our heartfelt condolences to his family and record our deep appreciation for his efforts and contribution to the Journal and our lives.
Boris was a scientific research fellow with the Institute for Prospective Technological Studies (IPTS), DG Joint Research Centre, European Commission. Prior to joining IPTS, Boris was a post-doc (BAEF) visiting fellow with Yale Law School's Information Society Project, a post-doc Global Emile Noël fellow at NYU Law School, and a doctoral visiting scholar at Columbia Law School. He earned a law degree from Leuven (1999), a Magister Juris ( LL.M.) degree from Brasenose College, Oxford (2000), and a Ph.D. in law from the European University Institute (2005). His research interests included European software interoperability regulation & fundamental rights; open source for e-government & the right to good administration; and, most recently, the tension between data protection and security in digital technologies ( e.g. European regulations of biometrics, RFID, and ambient intelligence devices).
In honour of his life and contributions to our field, we dedicate this memorial issue of the IJCLP to Boris Rotenberg. We invite all those who wish to be added to the mailing list as well as those who knew him and wish to send any reminiscences and other words of condolence to be shared with the family to contact us by emailing: Editor, Simone Bonetti at simo.bonetti@tiscali.it.
