By Nestor Criscio

Abstract
The author looks at what he calls the "dark side of wireless telecommunications" from the perspective of Latin American countries. He admits that the digitization, especially of terrestrial television broadcasting, is generally beneficial for human kind. Nestor Criscio, himself an originate of Uruguay, is concerned, however, that developing countries might fall behind on this development, because it requires immense financial investments in the broadcasting infrastucture that these countries are often unable to make. Eventually, in the view of the author, this could harm the right to freedom of expression and democracies as a whole.
